Product Overview
An Industrial Union is a essential fitting that provides a semi-permanent, yet easily removable joint between two pipes. Unlike a coupling, which requires the pipe to be cut for removal, a union’s three-piece design allows the piping system to be “broken” at specific points for maintenance, repair, or equipment replacement.
Precision 3-Piece Construction
The union consists of three distinct parts that work together to create a high-pressure seal:
-
Male Tailpiece: The threaded or socket-weld end that fits into the nut.
-
Female Tailpiece: The mating end that provides the sealing surface.
-
The Nut: A heavy-duty hexagonal or octagonal nut that draws the two tailpieces together, compressing the sealing faces.
Sealing Mechanisms: Metal-to-Metal vs. Gasketed
Our 3000# Forged Unions typically feature a precision-ground Metal-to-Metal Ball Joint seat. This tapered design creates a high-integrity seal capable of withstanding extreme pressures and thermal cycling without the need for a separate gasket. For lower-pressure applications, our 150# Cast Unions are available with integrated seats designed for standard industrial service.
Heavy-Duty Metallurgy
Fabricated from AISI 304 or 316L Stainless Steel, these unions are engineered for longevity in aggressive environments. The SS 316L variant is the preferred choice for chemical processing and marine applications due to its superior resistance to pitting and chloride-induced corrosion.
